CatKit Server News
August 2009-Live weather all working ok after fixing a few bugs... Visual 2008
upgrade for new GPIB project so the server will be left wanting while I do the
next job.
July
:2009- Live weather from my roof top Weather Station overlooking the cliffs of
Rottingdean across the bay to Brighton. Now Working..
June
2009:- Live Weather Station added.... 2008 SP2 ok!! and Exchange 2007 fully 100%
ok!! .
June
2009:- Lots of updating this month so I will report on 2008 and Exchange 2007
next month. Role on 2008 SP2.
June 2009:- The web cam is
running well but I keep forgetting to turn it on. Exchange 2007 is fully
operational and seemed a lot easier that I first thought though it is easy to
get tied in knots and loose the thread of things after just one mistake. My
suggestion would be to try it all out on a spare server before commiting to 100%
to 2007 exchange. Some good advantages over 2003 with better security but i am
still learning.
April 2009:- The web cam is
problomatic and needs sorting, addition of new 2008 Video s/w may help. More
soon.
March/April 2009:- Installed
Exchange 2007 and still enhancing. I would be please to hear from Anybody who
has gone through this interesting experiance.
Feb 2009:- Upgrade for 32 bit
Win 2008 to 64 Bit to allow Exchange 2007 to run in production mode.

2009 : ASP Customer error page brought up to date. Windows Server 2008
re-installed for instructive purposed and now back in action. Several people
have asked me where this server is. The server is a Dell PowerEdge SC440 server
+ Sonic Wall Firewall running in my spare bedroom at home. The IP address is
re-routed by a free (I gave them a small donation) DNS re-director (easyDNS)
back from my ISP to a fixed IP address on the Dell. All this is OK until my
supplier (BT UK) changes the IP address which they do every now and then. This
problem is resolved by up-dating the IP address on the DNS re-director every
hour or so therefore it always points to my server. This is done via a simple
.exe program on the server. All this negates having to have an ISP and use of
their web pages. The only thing the ISP does is hold the Donain name and
redirect it to EasyDNS for a minimal charge. My next step will be to take
complete control and do away with the ISP but another day perhaps as I want to
concentrate my new 2008 server. This Web Site is for developement purposes only.
